Good evening,
Tomorrow marks Black Owned Maine’s 3rd Giving Tuesday and what makes for BOM’s 2.5-year anniversary. What started as a project in June 2020 has turned into a life-changing endeavor. We are in deep gratitude for the support of this amazing community. A community that believed in us when we were still getting our footing.
Today we humbly ask for your continued support. If you have used our directory, partnered with a Black business in Maine, purchased from a Black business, or volunteered with a Black-led nonprofit – we ask you to consider making a reoccurring or one-time gift to our work. Each dollar will get us closer to our goal of raising $250k before April 2023.
BOM exists to sustain and innovate an ecosystem for Black entrepreneurs. As we know it – we are one of very few Black-led and Black-serving organizations dedicated to assisting Black entrepreneurs. Our work builds a more robust Black business ecosystem but also contributes to the larger Maine and global business ecosystems.
To date we have grown our membership from 68 businesses to 400, redistributed $85,000 to businesses and families that were not eligible for other COVID relief measures, hosted over 15 business workshops with over 200 attendees, partnered on a pilot business incubator and a hair braiding academy, as well as hosted a Hair Show with 150 attendees from 10 different countries.
We must do away with the systemic withholding of information that holds back Black entrepreneurs from success. By giving to BOM you can take a step toward economic liberation for Black Mainers and their families!
Thank you and take care,
Rose
